The Power of Free Donut Holes

Monday morning is so often a depressing time. It hits us all like a big slap in the face, rudely snapping us out of the relaxing dream we call the weekend. It actually doesn't have to be this way. To make your Monday mornings absolutely delightful, all you need to do is find a way to receive free donut holes.

Mmm mmm mmm.... just imagining the sweet, chewy taste of what's going to be in my mouth early next week makes me wish I could just skip the weekend. The sweet and frosted outside... the warm, doughy center... it all completes such a delicious introduction to the week ahead. Eating free donut holes on Monday morning is not just my courteous recommendation. It is a lifestyle for all of you to enjoy. -BTB

Whatever You Do, See These Movies

Hello faithful readers, newcomers and all open minded people! As promised before here is a new posting for you. It's a new year and there are already a plethora of films slated for release each weekend. As you stand in line to purchase tickets, grab an inexpensive and refreshing Coke at the concession stand and mosey on into the theater to find a comfortable seat, I want you to think about those films from the not so distant 2008. Did you see them all? Will you see the ones with buzz before the Academy Awards? Is The Visitor about aliens invading from outer space? Why would I see a movie about somebody's red belt? There was a movie starring Woody Harrelson that took place on a train in Russia? Who names their child Vicky Cristina? Josh Hartnett, really? These are all valid questions. I have been kind enough to narrow your list down to only 10 essential films. That's right the wait is over, take a look at my Top 10 Films of 2008 (in no particular order):

The Visitor
Redbelt
The Dark Knight
Slumdog Millionaire
Role Models
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Transsiberian
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
August
Under The Same Moon

I also want to recognize the best film that I saw all year. I am setting it aside because technically it doesn't count as if came out over ten years ago. La Haine was a thought provoking, adrenaline rushing, beautifully crafted film that left me breathless. You owe it to yourself to see this film. Thank you for tuning in for this addition of the Princes of the Universe blog. We appreciate your continued support and patience.

Redemption

Many apologies.... a thousand times over... we realize and ask for your forgiveness for our failure to communicate with each and every one of you faithful congregations of minions. Our New Year's resolution is to share our thoughts, opinions and feelings more regularly than before. If you are asking yourself exactly what do these Princes mean when they say "regular" we mean every week. This is our promise to you because you deserve it. In other news, the two of us and our bodyguard cried our eyes out, not literally though, while watching the beautiful film Marley & Me. See it if you believe in the power of dogs. We wish you the best of luck in these hard times and hope our blog provides some comfort and escape.

P.S. Do not hold us accountable for anything we have written above. Thank you again for your patience and devotion. It is appreciated and honored.

Complete Gratitude

It sure is ironic how things work out, isn't it? Staying positive is so, so important. Life eventually repairs itself. You just have to let it. This week is a perfect example. Please, let me explain... We all have a wonderful and yummy holiday to look forward to coming in just a couple of days. Cherish and enjoy everything you do this holiday. No matter where you are. No matter who is with you. Cherish it. Cherish them. For me, it all starts with Netflix. Boy, I love that company. If you aren't already a member than please join immediately. The mailbox has turned into an everlasting present for me day after day. Very, very delicious. And how about them Oklahoma Sooners! Football!!! Now, please, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine yourself laying on a bed. Your head is comfortably resting on a yellow pillow. The lights are off. A romantic nighttime chill is in the air. You roll over and open your delicate eyes. One man's face is all you can see. His splendid lips are so close that you can even inhale the erotic air coming out of his mouth. Robert Pattinson, I love you. Go Broncos! Go Cardinals! Go Mr. Bauer! Go The Decemberists! Go Coldplay. And, finally, I am cheering for everybody. It's going to be a wonderful, beautiful week. Happy Thanksgiving! - BTB

Obama vs McCain

It has been a beautiful Monday! We are less than 24 hours away from the big day... As I arrived to work this morning, a beautiful smile appeared on my face. Finally, it isn't too hot out anymore. The Fall of 2008 has been ridiculously warm. Sadly, I can only imagine how miserable it's been for the polar bears. Pain, pain, pain. Boy, suffering needs to be avoided at all costs. Have you ever been joyfully walking down the sidewalk, and accidenally slam your hand into the side of a public payphone? - BTB

My Shirt's Telling Me To Vote

Walking around Disneyland last night I realized something big was happening. Everywhere I walked people were laughing and commenting on my shirt. It reads, "Jack Bauer For President." I heard mumblings of the shirt being "so right" and "funny because it's true" and realized that it is the most politically correct statement I have ever carried around on my sleeve. It says something about the state of our country when people would rather vote for a pain loving, sometimes rogue, always patriotic CTU agent, then the actual candidates. At least with Mr. Bauer as our president we could wrap up this war for good and the economy would be tortured until it cooperated. That doesn't sound too bad to me. I'm writing Jack Bauer on my ballot. What will you do come election day? -SMG

A Volcano Of Racism.

I was a young 15 years old in 1997 when Volcano, starring Tommy Lee Jones, made its theatrical debut across America. It took a second viewing just a few days ago for me to really understand the movie. The basic plot is that there is a volcano about to erupt under the streets of Los Angeles. Jones plays Mike Roark, an emergency crisis working for the city, who deals with all sorts of disasters, small and large.
At first sight, this seems like your run of the mill disaster film. If you look deeper though, below the surface, just like the characters look below the surface of the city, you may find something rather surprising. Yes, there is action and suspense. Yes, there is a little bit of romance. Yes, there is a statement about racism and the idea of people helping people, not based on race, gender or age. It is not just about things exploding, people melting and barely escaping the hot grasp of molten lava. Instead Volcano discuses racism, sexism and the way people overcome these topics in a crisis, but why not in everyday life?
There is in fact a volcano of racism brewing under Los Angeles and in cities all over the world. This message is socially relevant to everyone and this overlooked movie needs a fair chance to share with people its themes. This may be hard to believe and you are wondering if this is even possible from a big budget studio, but you really have to see it to believe it. It's that good.

Why is everyone picking on Nicolas Cage?

There is no doubt that Nicolas Cage makes odd choices when selecting a movie and character to take on. That doesn't change the fact that however strange or absurd a movie is, his performance fits perfectly into the folds that make up the screenplay. Every performance is different when examined closely. Small details in his characters add nicely to the films. I am convinced he can do any role. and I have had this dream of casting him as a dance instructor at a college, a bit washed up, a bit pervy and of course, a bit doped up. Let that marinate for a minute...brilliant. I dare you to go back and take a look at some of his work and ask yourself, "Is he really as bad as I thought?" I guarantee that you will wonder why you spent so much time hating on the Cage when you wasted all that time not loving the Cage. Re-examine The Rock. Take a closer look at The Wicker Man. Dive deep into a dish of Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Red Rock West and Leaving Las Vegas. Many films. Many wonderful performances. Nicolas Cage, you are the president of my world. I'm voting you in for another four years. I'm spreading the word and to all you readers out there, let the Cagefest begin.

"The more educated a person is, the less they know about dancing."

Driving in my car this morning, I overheard this absurd comment on the radio. It has stuck with me throughout the entire day. I'm about average on the educational level. I'm interested in many subjects, and have much to learn in all of them. I enjoy the art of dance very much. Quite simply, does this make me a bad dancer? Think about it and embrace your desires. -BTB
